Yuck...

Well my "mild cold" turned out to be the mother of all colds. I went to work on Friday, feeling like crap, and was eventually sent home early after Mic took an hour lunch so she could cover for me. I've mostly been laying on the couch, taking Nyquil, Dayquil, and Theraflu in rotation. Finally on Sunday, I am starting to feel human again. I've coughed up most of the congestion, just a little left. I was so afraid this was going to be strep throat, since there is a bout of it going around the valley. After a good night's rest, I should be able to make it through work tomorrow. Hopefully this will be the last cold of the season...knock on wood.

Egads, I think I'm sick....

Not feeling well, think it's a mild cold. Yuck.
But anyway, here is a funny commercial I saw tonight on some program:

Handsome devil. . .

After the holiday gig with the band.

Workouts have been going pretty well. I'm starting to run 5K on the treadmill; Thursday I was able to run most of it at 7.0 and then pumping it up to 7.5 for the last lap and a half. Awesome feeling. It did take a little bit out of me and I had a little trouble finishing some of my reps on the weights later. But I'm impressed on how my waist is trimming up. Just got to keep at it and hope my knees continue to co-operate.
Friday night I went to the temple to help sing "Over the Skies of Yisrael" for the special Hannukah dinner in the ballroom. It included a meal, of which they made me a special entree of veggies and rice (mostly green beans, which nobody else got!) This was after my new Jewish Momma, Shirley, made a big fuss with the servers. Gotta love it. I actually ate some veggie rolls from Trader Joe's before I left work, so I was OK with not eating. Our table got overlooked when the latkes came out, but Shirley made a big fuss and got the chef to make more for us. They were only going to give us one platter, but she convinced them to leave both at the table. They were good, but a bit heavy. Of course, that explains jewish food in a nutshell. I'm glad I only had room for one, because you can really feel them in your stomach an hour later. Had a nice dollop of apple sauce on top of them. A little white wine, because there were a couple of toasts to be made. Alan had us split up and sit two at a table so that we could mingle. It was a good idea, there were some very nice people at the table.
It was time to sing our song, and then the guest singers (which I was one) could stay or leave. I decided to go, as I was kind of tired. Our next gig is to sing for "Well in the Desert" for the holiday meal served at the Convention Center for the homeless and disadvantaged on Christmas day. It will be nice to contribute to a worthy cause.

Happy Holidays

Tom the dispatchers holiday party

EVO

Callie is not eating her IAMS moist cat food like she used to, so I am going to switch to Innovo EVO. She had tried it once before; Simone Sheffield gave me two cans that she got in a gift basket (you know, the Hollywood ones that can be worth up to $30 grand.) Callie really liked that food, gobbled it up warm or cold in seconds. It's supposed to be even more natural for pets than the IAMS. I went to the Pet Luv next to the new Home Depot in PS. I was surprised that they were still in business since PetSmart opened across the street from them, but they sell specialty foods that you can't buy in larger chain stores. It was very reasonably priced, too.
I went to the gym after that, and decided to do a 5K run. If it got to be too much, I was prepared to quit after 20 minutes. I felt really good and was able to run mostly at 7.0 or 7.5 up to the 2 mile mark. My towel fell off the handle and ended up behind me, so I punched the speed way down and then stepped it up in increments from 5.0 up to 7.5 (I think). With my towel safely back on the bar, I was able to complete the 5K in just about 30 minutes. It wasn't crowded at all in the cardio room, so I was able to go over the 20 minutes they give you.
I took a shower, then did my weight training. I'm getting good at the weight I'm at now, so I'm thinking I can increase the weight by 5 lbs in another week. I guess my body is starting to shape up, although I'm not ready for the BlueBoy centerfold yet...
Had my rehearsal with the DWFB this morning, it is really shaping up nicely. It will be fun singing in a small ensemble with an orchaestra backing.
Stopped at Trader Joe's on the way back, and bought a whole bunch of stuff. I was hungry, but I didn't buy anything I'm not going to use. Got a bottle of wine for Tom Woodcock's party tonight. Now if I can only figure out his address and the time the party is supposed to start...

I Love A Parade...

Theresa from work sent me this picture, which came out kind of nice. It's from the Gay Pride Parade in November.
Last night I went to the gym, and had a good workout. After doing the treadmill, I went back to the locker room to shower. Mr Blackberry came in, but he quickly dressed and grabbed his bag. He spotted the older guy who interupted us last time. That's just wrong!
I'm going to a rehearsal with the Desert Winds Freedom Band tonight. I'll be singing a couple of songs with the holiday singers. Hopefully everything will go smoothly!

Prop 8 - The Musical

Kind of silly, but cute:

Friday

Haven't updated in a while, not much to report. Last Friday was interesting at the gym. I believe I saw Dr. Michael doing sit ups on one of those ball things when I was walking towards the cardio area. And I saw that blond guy with the superman tattoo by the weight stations working on his thighs. I haven't seen him in weeks - maybe months. Love seeing him in the shower. Then Sunday I got caught looking at some guy in the mirror, who smiled at me, but there is no way I would do anything with him. Older, kind of strange guy, but with a long bratworst with casing. I haven't seen "blackberry guy" since that brief encounter in the locker room over a week ago. I think I scare these guys off. I'm going back tonight, so let's see who I can creep out next.
Tuesday was weird. I was kind of out of it; partially because I stayed out Monday night and had 3 scotch & sodas at Streetbar. But things are kind of wearing on me also. Callie had another mini-stroke on Sunday - but she is doing much better now. I saw a picture of my mother from Thanksgiving and she looks so old. I mean Rita Hayworth in the final days old. Really upset me. And then as I was leaving to go to chorus rehearsal, I met one of John's poker friends and it's some guy who was chatting with me on A4A months ago. That was kind of freaky. I had some pain in my shoulder and left arm, so I was laying kind of low all during rehearsal and went home right afterwards.
I went to Trader Joe's after work yesterday, to pick up some rice milk and garbanzo beans. I saw some guy who used to be on A4A, talking to some other guy. I gave him the eye, and had to excuse myself because they were right in front of the canned beans. I like his voice, and he looks more attractive in person then in his pictures. But he seems kind of freaky, so I don't think anything could or would come from it. Just kind of an odd week..
